The HOBBIT final prototype was presented at the Event "Active and Assisted Living: On the way from Laboratory to Real Life [Auf dem Weg vom Labor ins Leben]" organized by the Viennese Chamber of Commerce (Wiener Wirtschaftskammer) and TUW on 15 September 2015 with approx. 100 attendees

HOBBIT was presented to the Vienna Public at the Vienna Research Festival.

The Vienna Research Festival took place on September 12th and 13th, 2015 at the Vienna Naschmarkt for the fourth time.

HOBBIT at Pioneers Festival , May 28 and 29, 2015

The HOBBIT team presented the robot at the Pioneers Festival 2015 in the Wiener Hofburg on May 28 and 29. The voices have been clear at the event: robots will be evade more and more areas of human life. The CEO of Hanson-Robotics was very clear, robots will assist and eventually replace care personnel.

Strategic Workshops in Sweden

The project member Susanne Frennert (PhD candidate) has been invited to two strategic workshops in Stockholm, Sweden (16 March and 17 June 2015) to form the innovation agenda for Social Robotics in Sweden.

HOBBIT is learning a favourite user object (the red mug): The robot holds out the turntable, which it extracted from its side, to the user. It then asks the user to place the object on the turntable and rotates it with its hand. After obtaining a detection model from the views, HOBBIT can search for the object in the environment. this photo shows the new Hobbit for user trials at home

Several publications presented HOBBIT at HCII 2014, June 22-27, 2014

HOBBIT developments created very positive reactions. Noticeable interest comes from the Georgia Tech "Aware Home Research Initiative" . We are planning for scientific collaboration as well as potentially test the robot in the Georgia Tech HomeLab

HOBBIT presented at ISR 2014 in Munich as part of AUTOMATICA on June 3.

Markus Vincze presented the HOBBIT robot to a wide audience in June at the AUTOMATICA fair. Specific interest came from ROBOTins®. They are interested to test HOBBIT in Dutch homes

HOBBIT at the uDay, May 16, 2014

The uDay took place on May 16, 2014 at the FH Vorarlberg. The conference focuses on ssistants technology for assisted living.

We had our own exhibition area, among other companies from the fields of Ambient Assisted Living (AAL), to present the HOBBIT robot.

The attendees of the uDay were very interested in HOBBIT and the response has been extremely positive.

AAL Kongress Wohnen - Pflege - Teilhabe "Besser leben durch Technik" , January 21-22, 2014

The 7th Ambient Assisted Living (AAL) Conference in Berlin, Germany is based on the theme "Wohnen - Pflege - Teilhabe".

The AAL conference offers an outstanding platform for the field of innovation AAL. Furthermore AAL conference facilitates an exchange of information and knowledge between researchers and developers, manufacturers and users, end users and representatives from government, economy and associations.

Pflegekongress 2013 - "Pflege ohne Grenzen - Voneinander lernen - Miteinander arbeiten" ,

HOBBIT project at the Dachverband Wiener Sozialeinrichtungen, November 2013

AAF presented the HOBBIT project at the Dachverband Wiener Sozialeinrichtungen [holding organization of Viennese Social Services] within a business executive Jour Fixe in November 2013. This meeting marked a good opportunity to inform people from diverse care facilities about the HOBBIT project, to discuss an implementation in real life situations and to gain useful input for the target product. The participants were very interested in actual feedback, and response of the users and the presentation were a good possibility for collecting contacts to potential primary and secondary users for PT2.

Blue Danube Robotics at the Pioneers Festival , October 29-30, 2013

Blue Danube Robotics is a start-up company founded by TU graduates Walter Wohlkinger and Michael Zillich. The aim of Blue Danube Robotics is to launch affordable robots that help persons with physical disabilities.

Blue Danube Robotics will present the first components of their assistive robots at this year's Pioneers Festival (October 29 to 30) at the Hofburg, Vienna. These components have been developed as part of the HOBBIT project and will be integrated into the next HOBBIT platform.

Furthermore the two founders will discuss the opportunities and difficulties of European and American startup's in the field of robotic with well-known greats from the fields of robotics, like Rodney Brooks (iRobot, Rethink Robotics) and Steve Cousins (Willow Garage) at the podiums discussion "Robolution ? Rise of the Robotics Startups" on wednesday. The podium discussion will be chaired by Andra Keay (Silicon Valley Robotics)

this photo shows the Hobbit at the uday ULUND presented the results from the HOBBIT PT1 user trials at a seminar at the open "Certec Information Day" on Rehabilitation Engineering and Design 23 October 2013 in Lund, Sweden. 90 older persons and health care students among others attended the seminar




Immediately after the PT1 trials ULUND prepared and held a seminar and PT1 demo for 20 of the 40 interested old persons that wanted to participate in the PT1 trials, but were not selected or currently did not fulfil all inclusion criteria.

ACROSS Workshop on Cooperative Cognitive and Robotic Systems , September 27, 2013

The HOBBIT concept and developments were discussed at the ACROSS Workshop on September 27. Participants were astonished about good perception of robot by older persons. Cultural differences have been discussed and it was challenged, if the finding of no differences will hold for PT2. Participants were impressed by the complexity of the system as compared to state-of-the-art robots with elderly people.

HOBBIT Clustering Meeting , September 26, 2013

"HOBBIT - The Mutual Care Robot" was presented at the Clustering Meeting at the Foundation for Research & Technology - Hellas in Heraklion. The aim of the clustering event was to bring together European projects for demonstrations, presentations of innovative solutions, and discussions of potential synergies and cooperation. Participants were interested in the HOBBIT project especially because of the user centered approach, ethical issues were discussed and concerning experiences have been shared.

ULUND has been invited to a national innovation conference in Stockholm on 17 September 2013 about forming future strategies for the life of older persons where the human is in the centre. The conference was arranged by "The Daily Medicine" (the leading newspaper for the healthcare sector) and "VINNOVA" (Sweden's innovation agency).

Presentation of the HOBBIT project by AAF as part of the master course "Geriatrics", June 2013

In June 2013, the HOBBIT project was presented by AAF as part of the master course "Geriatrics", which is organized and conducted by the Danube University Krems, in collaboration with the Haus der Barmherzigkeit. The attendees, medical doctors in advanced education, were impressed with the engagement, the possibilities and the combination of functions regarding the usage of HOBBIT. Ethical issues have also been discussed. The participants encouraged to implement the presentation as a permanent part of the course.

Workshop on Human Robot Interaction at ICRA , May 10, 2013

Human Robot Interaction (HRI) for Assistance and Industrial Robots. Scientific Knowledge, Standards and Regulatory Framework. How to design robots for interacting with human in the real world?

AAF invited to the "Aging and Technology" Discussion Forum, which was an organized professional discussion round. The event was circulated via press and had an attendance of over 100 persons. This event was also used for recruiting for PT2.

"Certec Information Day" on Rehabilitation Engineering and Design October 24, 2012

The HOBBIT project was presented at the annual full-day "Certec Information Day" on Rehabilitation Engineering and Design 24 October 2012. Approximately 350 persons attended this event. There were seminars and exhibitions.

Certec Information Days appeal to a broad target group. This includes people who work in different branches of health care and social services, the schools, planning and administration. But also to people with disabilities and their relatives, to social workers, personal assistants, doctors, teachers, case workers, students, occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech therapists and politicians.
